Hello Brothers and Sisters,

I want to thank everyone who donated clothing and toys this past year for the H.O.P.E foundation in Garden Grove. This helps the abused women and children in our community. Also, thanks to our new Moose members who joined with us in making our lodge, one of the top lodges in California. We hope you will continue your membership in the coming years, and we especially thank those who continue to renew their Legion dues.

THANK YOU

Well, all of the flags are up and now the preparation will begin for next Memorial Day. I want to thank everyone who came out this weekend to help, without you none of this would have been possible.

To those of you who returned on Monday to retrieve the flags and bundle them back up, I want to especially thank you! Of the two days, retrieving and bundling the flags is by far the more strenuous and tedious task, and one in which we get a fraction of the volunteers to help. This is an important part of the process in order to reuse the flags and I truly am grateful to those of you who helped.

This past weekend was only our second time placing flags at the cemetery and our number of volunteers who came out doubled from Memorial Day. That is amazing and shows the true patriotism by all! With that, I understand there are some bumps in the road as I am still learning how to most efficiently coordinate everything involved. I have already identified a couple areas which could be improved and will implement new procedures for next Memorial Day.

My vision for this project is to be something people of all ages can come out and show their respect and appreciation for our service members, past and present. The groups of Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, police explorers, fire explorers, JROTC groups, young children, and families spending time together is truly amazing! Hopefully everyone takes something meaningful away from this experience.

My goal is to hopefully have each and every one of the more than 200,000 graves adorned with a flag for next Memorial Day weekend. If you or someone you know would like to make a donation towards the purchase of more flags, please visit the following website. Remember, because we are partnered with the non-profit organization "Honoring Our Fallen," all donations are tax deductible.

http://www.honoringourfallen.org/#!programs/vstc3=a-flag-for-every-hero

If you haven't done so already, I invite you to visit the Facebook page created for this project. www.facebook.com/riversidenationalcemeteryaflagforeveryhero

Feel free to post pictures and share your stories.

On a final note, I would like to thank our flag distributor US Flagmaker Inc. out of Georgia. The owner, Steve, was extremely helpful and supportive of our mission. His company made a generous donation of flags to assist us and offered us an amazing price for our purchase. I would highly recommend his company if you have any needs to purchase flags. All flags are 100% Made in the USA!

I look forward to seeing everyone again next Memorial Day!

Sincerely,

VETERAN’S DAY at RIVERSIDE NATIONAL CEMETERY

Our Moose lodges in our district are involved in funding this great endeavor. I hope all of you can support in some way, even if it is small. Every penny counts. The flags will be put up every Memorial and Veterans Day! With over 200,000 veterans at Riverside, it will take a lot of $$ and hard work. I, wife Sharon, and daughter Peggy, will be there to assist in any way we can. Hope to see many of you there, it only takes a few hours of your time, to remember so many who gave so much for our country.

Thank you...and God Bless to all.

Leonard Chapman (Community Service Chairman)

This July our Dist. #19 meeting was held at Garden Grove Lodge, and as a community service project, we invited Officer Brennan Leininger of the Anaheim PD who told us of his desire to place an American flag at every veteran grave maker at Riverside National Cemetery. This would take over 200,000 flags, and many volunteers to accomplish this. Last memorial day, his group "flagged" over 25,000 graves. His hope is to raise the necessary funds to cover the cemetery, by next memorial day. Our members and lodges of Dist.#19 have donated enough money, $ 500+ and that should flag 1000 markers. Officer Brennan is part of the national "Honoring Our Fallen", a non-profit organization, and all donations are tax deductible. He can be reached at brennan@dslextreme.com or donations made to

"Honoring Our Fallen"

11436 Seabrook Way

Cypress, Ca. 90630.

Also at www.honoringourfallen.org.

Flags are 8x12 and cost abt. 44 cents each.

Here is the name and address of the Anaheim police officer who is raising funds to place thousands of flags at Riverside National Cemetery. Last Memorial day, he and his volunteers placed 21,000 flags over our veterans graves. He will need volunteers and funds this coming Veterans Day, and next years Memorial Day.

You can send checks/money to: Mr. Brennan Leininger, 1146 Seabrook Way, Cypress, Ca., 90630. Please pay to Mr. Leininger, and add comment: Flags/Name of your lodge.

Thanks to all for your participation , and add this to your lodge community service.

Leonard

Letter Of Appreciation

Leonard,

Thank you so much for your help and support!  Either way is fine as far as who to send the money to, eventually it will all make its way to “Honoring Our Fallen”.  I will gladly accept it and pass it along if that is easier.  Honoring Our Fallen has been my partner in this mission and I enlisted their support so that all donations/flag purchases can be used as a tax deductible donation since they are a non-profit organization.

We placed out over 21,000 flags this past Memorial Day and already have almost enough to double that.  The numbers keep growing each day and hopefully we will be able to fill the place soon so that each and every grave sight has a flag on it.

Please pass along my many thanks to your members and let them know we will be going back out this November for Veteran’s Day to place the flags out again.  Hopefully you will be able to join us!

Sincerely,

Brennan

We are still accepting clothing for the people at H.O.P.E., they support the abused women and children of Garden Grove. If you have small toys, new or in good condition, it would make the children smile!

Thank you for all that you have done for a great cause.... "

Thank You

I have contacted our newest soldier stationed in Afghanistan but have not received a reply.  When I do, I know our lodge will respond as we did for Sgt. Bikley.  I have not heard from the Sergeant since his being wounded, but sent him a “get well” message from all of.  Remember, we are still accepting clothing for “Hope”, who helps abused women and children.  They can always use clothing and childrens’ toys, school supplies, etc.  especially this time of year.  Garden Grove Lodge was the recipient of the “International Gold Aware for Community Service, and it was because of all of you who have contributed time, travel, and donations that made it possible.  I thank you and the lodge thanks you.

Hard work and donated plants have made our former “weed patch” a nice garden area.  Many thanks to Brother Keith Robinson and his helper.  Also, to those who donated time and some very nice and expensive plants, thank you,, you have made a big contribution to our lodge.

  Tommy Moose:
A Very Successful Community Service Program Gets Even Better!

By SHAWN BAILE, Director/Fraternal Programs

If you happen to see a cuddly plush moose in a red sweater in the coming months that looks like the Tommy Moose--just more cuddly and lovable looking--don’t be shocked.

Tommy has gotten quite a makeover! With his updated appearance, we hope he’ll be even more welcome in police cars, fire trucks and ambulances than ever.

In February 2007, the Supreme Council began to seriously consider redesigning Tommy Moose. The opportunity existed to take a very successful community service program to the next level; to continue the initial concept of providing a plush Moose in emergency vehicles while expanding Tommy’s recognition into additional areas to create a more identifiable image.

Doing so enables the Moose the chance to trademark the Tommy Moose character to restrict use of the likeness only to programs approved by the Order.

A new design created by Chris Ecker of Moose International Communications & Public Affairs was submitted to a vendor and a prototype was composed. The design was approved, and production of the “new and improved” Tommy Moose has begun!

While it was extremely important to continue the success that Tommy Moose has spread throughout the fraternity, it was equally important to assure that the new design was flexible enough to be utilized in other arenas. Fraternal units will continue to be encouraged to purchase plush Tommy Moose through Catalog Sales and present the items to emergency services personnel in their respective communities. Units that have made an initial presentation should stay in contact with these personnel and replenish their stock when necessary.

The newly designed Tommy Moose will be available beginning in January 2008 and will be used to fill all orders placed from this point forward. The price remains at $75/dozen; the catalog item number is 130. To order, call 630-966-2250; fax 630-859-3505; or e-mail order details to catalogsales@mooseintl.org.

ARBOR DAY

The Garden Grove Moose Lodge #620, joined the local school and church, by planting trees on the street in front of our lodge. The lodge donated funds, and two young trees were planted, with help from the school children. The local TV and newspaper recorded the event, and everyone agreed that this was a joint non-profit effort that was adding some "leafy greens to the area". This was one of the big Community Service projects that our lodge does on an annual basis.

Dear Leonard Chapman,

Thank you for your interest in the Adopt A US Soldier organization. Adoption can be as easy as writing letters or as involved as sending care packages. Your level of participation is entirely up to you.

Comments Here: Hello, I'm a soldier of the 101st Airborne Division currently deployed to the Zhari district of Kandahar province in southern Afghanistan. My platoon and I would greatly appreciate any hard candies(werthers/jolly ranchers, etc) and any school supplies such as pens/paper that you would care to send. We give these items out to the Afghan children while we are out on patrol. The only school that is left in this district is attacked almost daily by the Taliban which has driven all of the children to staying at home. They constantly ask us for pens and we give them all that we can, but there never seems to be enough. Afghanistan is a very poor country and the children here do not have many "niceties" at all. Also if you could send some soccer balls, it would be greatly appreciated. I am very grateful. Thank you for your kind support.

Sgt. Bickley;

I sent a e-mail last week, and was hoping for a reply. I am ready  to send my  first box with some of the items you requested. Would like to know  if you  are still available to receive it?? Am in the process of finding some  "soccer balls", and hope to get them to you ASAP.
Thanks for your sevice to our country...

I know that many of you have been saving the pull tabs from your cans at home.  Now is the time to turn them in!

Monte and I are going to make a trip to Ronald McDonalds House this month.   If you have any tabs at home for this drive, PLEASE bring them to the lodge now.  We need as many as we can get to make this donation bigger and better than last year.  Help us and the children at CHOCS by bringing in your tabs.

Those of you that don’t know about this project, let me explain.  We save all our pull tabs from all cans, drinks, etc. and we take them to our local Ronald McDonald House.  They use them to help the parents of children in CHOCs to be close in their time of need.

HELP US HELP THEM … save those pull tabs !!!!
